Things to do near Keswick

Blencathra

3.5 miles from Low Briery · nearest town Threlkeld

Blencathra, also known as Saddleback, rises to 868 metres above the village of Threlkeld, just east of Keswick. Its row of steep ridges makes it one of the most recognisable fells in the northern Lakes. The railway trail that passes Low Briery leads to Threlkeld, so you can reach the start on foot.

There are several routes up, from steady grassy paths to rocky ridges such as Hall’s Fell. Sharp Edge is a serious scramble with big drops and becomes slippery when wet, so leave it to experienced walkers in good conditions. In winter the fell can need ice axe and crampons. Check the forecast and carry a map and compass.
